Digelectric 1.0 out of 5 stars This happens a lot in my area because we have power outages a lot, so it powers back up, doesn't reload the security settings, and thus leaves a security hole in my home network. Kind of a bad design in my opinion. Doing a manual reset to the correct security settings is certainly possible, but seems to be finicky (it requires a login to a web-based utility) and usually takes me a few tries to get it working correctly. Viajerozz 1.0 out of 5 stars See the above review on the router's problem with keeping its security settings. I have the same problem. Every time it loses power you have to manually reset your security settings and passowrd. I called Vonage, their great suggestion was I should buy a new router. My advice, stay away from this dog. Please try again later. Please try again later. Benjamin Byrne 1.0 out of 5 stars It has been problematic from day one. The wireless signal strength is weak; the wifi connection speed is slow, often gets dropped, and has trouble reconnecting. And now, less than 6 months after buying it, it's started to periodically lose all connectivity (wired, wireless, even phone) every few hours.

The only solution I've found for this is to briefly unplug and re-plug the thing, which solves the problem for a while -- although 20% of the time I do this, it completely loses all the settings I'd programmed it with, forcing me to change the admin password, SSID, and wifi password over and over again. It's irritating to no end. You're better off finding something else (or, more likely, a pair of something elses -- VOIP router and WIFI router). Please try again later. Please try again later. I've set up the WPA encryption, saved and everything's fine until a power cut, or its unplugged.Somehow they cant see each other in the workgroup or even ping each other using their assigned Ip's! So unless all your PC's are wireless or all hard-wired in there no chance of file sharing here! My advise. steer clear of this one. The PC (equipped with a RJ-45 10Mb Ethernet or 100Mb Fast Ethernet NIC) should be connected to any of the 5 ports (1 - 5) for the DES-1005D. 3 Prev Next. Register now! All ports automatically detect the transfer rate (10 Mbit or 100 Mbit) of the connected computer or hub. The connections also automatically distinguish between full and half duplex operation and support flow control. Choose to use a switch now and thus opt for a technology that will also secure your investment in the future. Because a switch has a twice-as-high data throughput rate compared with a hub through its full duplex operation. This performance cannot be achieved by any hub. Flow control as per IEEE 802.3x allows a direct connection between the server and the switch for fast and reliable data transfer. With 200 Mbit in full duplex operation, this switch provides your server with high-speed data channels with a very low loss rate. The devices come without a fan and are thus ideal for use directly at the workplace or as a patch cable distributor.

    d-link router manual

Initial Security Settings Change the wireless settings Download the complete instructions for printing If these values are not changed, it's easier for hackers to access your network and information. It's important that you not only change your user name and password from the default, but that you continue to change it regularly. There are two accounts set up on your router: the User and Administrator accounts. Because the Administrator account can make changes to your network settings, it's very important to change the Administrator user name and password. MAC address filtering allows you to specify the computers that can access the network. This makes it much more difficult for hackers to break into your home network. You will use this MAC address to specify the only computers allowed to connect to your home network. Download the complete instructions for printing This prevents your router from responding to anyone pinging your WAN IP address. Hackers ping public WAN IP addresses to determine if a WAN IP address is valid. If you select Enabled in the Discard PING from WAN side, your D-Link router won't respond to the electronic signal (ping), and the hacker won't receive a message back verifying whether the WAN IP address is valid. If you have no additional computers to connect, you can skip to Step 6. The directions are much simpler and generally take less than five minutes to complete. If you're unsure about whether you have a wireless network adapter, you can use Windows Device Manager to determine whether you have one installed. Then install wireless network adapters to connect notebook computers or computers that are farther away from the router. This ensures that all the connections are secure, and the hardware configurations are working properly. The Verizon home page should display. Then install wireless network adapters to connect notebook computers or computers that are farther away from the router.

It should be a description that differentiates it from the other computers that will be on the network (For example, office desktop). The name cannot contain any spaces or special characters. All computers connected to your network must be assigned to the same workgroup. Because radio waves are used to transfer information between your networked computers, it's possible for hackers to intercept this information. Taking advantage of the security features built into your D-Link router can make it much more difficult for hackers to access your personal information. The level of protection required for your home network is dependent on the type of information stored on your home network. You have to decide what level of protection you need and how you are going to provide that protection. This section provides information on the most basic steps to increase the security of your home network. It is not intended to include a description of all the possible security features provided by the D-Link router. Take a few minutes now to improve the security of your home network by changing the initial settings of your D-Link router to provide the level of protection you need. Periodically, you should maintain the security of your home network by changing your router password, SSID, and WEP key. Note: You may have already completed some of the initial security updates listed below during installation. Simply skip the steps that you have already completed.

When you're ready, the next step to get the maximum benefits from your home network is to configure Windows to share folders and printers. Be sure to check your notebook computer to see if it already has a network card. The wireless router is generally able to go through two or three walls before it loses connectivity. If the signal hits a wall at an angle, the signal appears much larger and decreases its strength. You can't update any security settings unless you know the user name and password and can access the router's configuration utility. The D-Link router will automatically reboot itself. This includes the default SSID and WEP encryption key. You must re-configure your D-Link router to match the previous settings that were assigned to all the other devices on your wireless network. Otherwise, no other network devices will be recognzied. This is another name for the MAC address. It should be 12 characters (6 pairs of characters separated by hyphens). You will enter this MAC address without the hyphens when you set up the MAC address filtering You must enter the same SSID previously assigned to all the computers and network adapters connected to your wireless network. No other actions are needed. In this step, you will use this saved information to configure the computers you're connecting to your home network. To configure Windows for home networking: If you saved the information to a flash drive, insert the flash drive into an available USB port Download the complete instructions for easy printing You will use the same flash drive or removable media that you used on this computer to configure the remaining network computers.

I have now purchased 2 more kits for family members for the upcoming holiday season. We are paying for 100mbs but was constantly testing at 25. The bigger issue was the constant loss of signal. I purchased this mesh system uncertain of my results and I am simply beyond pleased. I only needed 2 units for my 2-story 1920 sq ft house: one in the basement, the other in the living room on the opposite side on the main floor. Now I am constantly testing between 90-105 mbps with no loss or dropped signal.I have had absolutely zero connectivity issues, and the user app is perfect for the average person. In the app you can rename all of your connected devices making it easier to identify them. You can also set certain devices to “priority” to maximize their bandwidth. It’s beyond simple creating a guest network, and the “alerts” when a new device first connects to your network is incredibly helpful. I can’t say enough good things about this product and experience thus far. Give it a go for sure!We have seen performance equivalent to what is stated in the specs. We bought the 3 pack, which was more than we needed for our 2 story townhouse, but the sale price was cheaper than buying the two pack. We are using only two at the moment, which is giving our home full, high speed coverage. Streaming video in multiple places at once has proven to be no issue. There are some corners of a couple of rooms where buffering used to happen with our old router, that no longer have any issues. It has also given us extended coverage outside for the patio and courtyard, more than 50 feet from the house. Speed tests show marked improvement outdoors, and the range is significantly enhanced. The router itself is a disc shape with a 4.5 inch diameter, and is white in color. We have the second unit sitting on the fireplace mantel in our bedroom and easily blends in. It could also easily be covered.

com will not accept returns of any desktop or notebook computer more than 30 days after you receive the shipment. New, used, and refurbished products purchased from Marketplace vendors are subject to the returns policy of the individual vendor. Actual wireless transmission rate, wireless coverage, and number of connected devices are not guaranteed, and will vary as a result of 1) environmental factors, including building materials, physical objects and obstacles, 2) network conditions, including local interference, volume and density of traffic, product location, network complexity, and network overhead and 3) client limitations, including rated performance, location, connection quality, and client condition. TP-Link reserves the right to modify the service and feature at anytime. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. Please try again later. Taylor C. 5.0 out of 5 stars It comes in decent packaging but nice product. Set up wasn’t too hard if you have general knowledge it is a breeze. I did have an issue with one of my units being recognized. I reached out to tech-support and they were a joke. I ended up figuring out the issue on my own. The phone in tech-support is my only negative experience with these units. They cover my entire home and probably three doors down from me and still getting a strong signal. The built-in security suite works great for parental controls, content blocking, and even specific device usage time. The built-in virus protection and firewall is a nice added feature as it blocks port scans and other intrusions on all of the smart devices in your homes like TVs, Amazon Alexas, thermostat, and any other smart home devices that doesn’t have a built-in firewall or virus protection to protect your network.

Totalmente recomendadoSorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Excellent feature set inside the app. Parental controls, Port Forwarding, and comes with a 2 year anti-virus. However, it does NOT have all the advanced features of a standard router - this is not a problem for me and won't be for most people out there. If you're so inclined, you can still control the advanced settings at your home Internet router. No wiring requirements beyond plugging each unit in and attaching an Ethernet CAT5 cable from your Internet router to 1 of the units. The other units will connect wirelessly. If you have ethernet backhaul throughout your home - that will work too. But it isn't necessary if your home wiring is as bad as mine. Speed and coverage is excellent. Every inch of my home has coverage (about 2,300 square feet over 3 levels) with no noticeable connection lag.

Some of my plaster walls are difficult to transmit through and this system overcomes that no problem. Your devices are unaware of which unit they are talking to, the Deco's will take care of all that for you. You just set up one network SSID and connect your devices to it. NO connecting to an EXT network or switching around your wifi network to extended areas. It's completely seamless. I have about 20 devices connected at any given time. No issues whatsoever. I really love this system. On price and quality, it's a 5 star from me. Highly recommended to anyone that wants to cover their home in wifi.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again.

There is a single green led on the top of the unit, but the app does offer a Night Mode to turn off the light at night if it is not wanted, or you can choose to turn it off all the time. Each of the three disc are identical in size. The one you choose to attach to your modem becomes the “main” one. When comparing this brand to others, look at the specs carefully. This is not the fastest mesh network available, but it has plenty of speed to match our service speed (300 Mbps). The setup was very easy, and I’m happy with the app. If you have children, there are substantial parental controls available, including limiting amount of time of internet access, when access is available, blocking types of websites or specific sites (I wish I would have had these options when my kids were teens). There is no web setup for the router(s), so you do need some type of mobile device (I used iOS, so I can only speak to that version of the app). The app also offers settings for IPv6, address reservation, port forwarding, DDNS, and VLAN. The only other drawback I see is that there are only two networking ports on each disc. On the “main” disc, one will be used to connect to your modem. So if you need more than one item with a wired connection to the router, you will need a switch. As of August 2018 there are several highly rated mesh networking options on the market at the moment. This one meets our needs and performance expectations at a wallet friendly price point. My recommendation is to know your needs, and pick a system that prioritizes them.I hated to take down my Apple AirPort Extreme router, but I was tired of trying to get WiFi throughout my whole house because I couldn’t find a range extender that did the job, and I tried several. I swallowed my pride and replaced Apple with this TP-Link Deco, and am I ever glad! 20 minutes start to finish, three units on two floors. Easiest setup ever, and flawless. Max WiFi everywhere in house. Speed of WiFi exactly same as speed of modem.

Great job, TP-Link!
